EPISODE EIGHT: MERDUR most fowel
At 10:30 on Wednesday Susan becomes aware the soul of Dave Strider (the final deadweight besides Altman and Siren) has left the manor. She raises the alarm and all the guests begin a search while Yakety Sax plays in the background. It takes twenty minutes for Anastasia, accompanied by Beat and Gundam, to discover Dave’s stabbed body in the elevator shaft along with a katana. Beat brings the body into the dining room, where Kaoru examines the stab wounds and Clyde brings in proof from the victim’s bedroom of his beautiful artistic genius.
TRIAL (NOTE: Significant material taken from the official Murder Manor website) The suspects are Beat, Michael Altman, Spain, Reiko Aya, and Belarus.
Yuzu realizes that since Dave was deadweight there must have been a second tool, which Lithuania discovers was a skeleton key hidden on Dave's body. May wonders whether Dave had intended to murder one of the deadweights and been killed in self-defense; however, the body had been stabbed from the front when he'd fallen on it, and there was no sign of a struggle near the elevator on the second or third floor.
Meanwhile, Rapture and Susan find Dave's key tossed in some laundry in his room. Along the way, they test the skeleton key and figure out it can open any room door. They also inspect the kitchen and find tape stuck to the bottom of a table in there, presumably used to hold the katana.
Kaoru and Yuzu search the elevator shaft with a flashlight and find it to be bloodless. Kaoru also examines Dave's body in more detail and determines that the wounds are blade-shaped and that Dave likely didn't struggle while being stabbed, as well as finding a swollen gash on the back of his head.
Beat steps up to the plate with the idea that Dave had been knocked out in his room, due to the blood on his desk, before being dragged to the elevator shaft and stabbed. Kaoru also brings up the fact that even though the body had been cold, the blood had still been somewhat sticky, and suggest the possibility of one of the culprits having the power to manipulate the body's temperature. Stiles wonders where the blood is and how the killer got out of the shaft.
EPISODE NINE: Maybe The Mildest Case To Ever Exist
Michael Altman, Siren, and Belarus all offer to take questions. Siren demonstrates her ability in front of Susan and also questions the motives the killer may have had with this week's incentive. Spain brings up the idea that the murder could have taken place in any of the empty rooms from those who've died, as the killer had a skeleton key. Latvia and Clyde go off to investigate this but find nothing.
Siren suggests that Altman's alibi isn't good enough. He counters with an explanation of his backstory, his physical and psychological weakness. Stiles tests both by asking him to pick up Dave's body, which induces a traumatic response accepted by the cast as authentic.
They aren't one hundred percent certain but approach the narrative that the killer snuck into Dave's room, knocked him out, stabbed him with an icicle, brought him to the kitchen to stab him with the katana taped under the table, psychokinetically mimed the fall, and cooled the body... all of which would be facilitated by ice powers and hair control.
They convict Siren. In her exit interview she maintains her perky professional demeanor while explaining she did not even have any interest in changing her past, but rather did not want to risk the nullification of her powers, which she had gained over the course of her intergalactic conquest spree. The production then executes her by means of her signature business cards and strangulation via her empowered hair.
With Sailor Aluminum Siren’s evil nature so unambiguous, the only doubt remaining in people’s minds concerns Altman’s mental health, which he attempts to defend after the trial. The nations Belarus and Latvia just make a beeline for the bar where Spain has been making drinks. In spite of her stoicism and his innocence, they share the goal of providing proper burials to all the players. Yuzu shies away from corpses but works herself half to death in the study on research and theories, to the concern of Kaoru, Lithuania, and Kanaya. The last isn’t taking this week so well either, found sketching obsessive pictures of Annie.
EPISODE TEN: Two's Company, Three's A Body Discovery
The incentive is a single personalized item. Only a few people react to this: More emotions fly about rankings. The immune players (Susan, Kaoru, and Rapture, to her disappointment since she would rather be popular) will receive a hidden compartment in their bedroom, while the popular players (Spain, Lithuania, and Yuzu) will receive a clue to find a vial of potassium chloride. Kanaya, the first deadweight, is disarmingly casual about the status this has as a lethal injection. Rin is very distressed as the second deadweight, though at least there is no million dollar bonus prize this week. Sonia has a serendipitous opportunity to distract herself from being the third deadweight with the date being that of her birthday.
By Monday Yuzu has recruited Poland with whom to burn the item in her cabinet, to Kaoru and Lithuania’s concern. That nation is also responsible for cutting up the flowers in the conservatory. Annie has finally crawled out of her chrysalis to cook breakfast, acknowledged only by Stiles in Mean Girls defiance, Kanaya to deliver a recap of the trial, and Rin staying by her side increasingly scared for her own safety. Should Sonia survive the week instead of them, Rapture has an undying fan in her after a belated birthday performance on Tuesday night.
Wednesday seems like a calm enough day, despite the foreboding atmosphere. Kanaya helps Kaoru with a Japanese cooking adventure. Touko assists Yuzu with removing the smoke from her clothing. Poland wanders into the music room, and Yuzu follows the noise. They find Rin Kagamine’s body with the warranty voided by a sword in her midsection – and the clock starts chiming thirteen times for the two of them.
EPISODE ELEVEN: Red Trout
Poland and Yuzu run into the library to inform Susan the clock rang early. She had dismissed Rin’s 3:15 absence but by now it is 3:30 and the worst has been confirmed. Lithuania and Rapture look on, concerned and excited.
Belarus and Latvia form an investigation team but find nothing, and neither does Lithuania looking outside. Alice finds Rin’s keys, then discovers the state of the parlor with a fire dying down and two pokers present, not four, ventures onward into the conservatory ravaged by Polish forces, and on an uplifting final note the cozy Japanified kitchen.
In the http://murdermanor.dreamwidth.org/4967.html TRIAL Susan, Sonia, Gundam, Touko, and Kanaya take the stand. They put down fairly solid alibis, though Sonia and Gundam's main witnesses are each other, which is dubious in a case where there may have been an accomplice.
The alibis presented don't place anyone near the music room, and As Kanaya puts it once her shock at Annie's confessing fades, all along only two players saw the bodynaya puts it once her shock at Annie's confessing fades, all along only two players saw the body. is the only suspect who was even unsupervised during the general period. Kanaya was in the kitchen with Kaoru, having spent much of the day joined at the hip except to get the china; Susan was witnessed in the courtyard by Yuzu; and Sonia and Gundam were with each other.
However, the clock did go off early, meaning either a full accomplice was involved or someone witnessed the body and did not report it. Sonia defends herself and Gundam while others doubt that an accomplice would actually comply in this game. The box found by Poland at the crime scene is another distraction - if it were the second deadweight item (the first being the sword in Rin's midsection), why does it seem to have been purposeless? Kanaya suggests several uses the chemicals inside might have had, while May fumbles towards the conclusion it may be a "red trout".
Beat and Belarus investigate Sonia and Kanaya's rooms, finding very little - Kanaya's can even be compared strikingly similar to the Takami trial, gloves in the dress and all. Susan and Gundam have their rooms investigated by Stiles due to prior agreement by the former and objections to tresspassing by the latter. Alice spearheads the investigation of Touko and Rin's rooms - she finds an encrypted laptop computer on Rin's bed and resolves to decrypt it, supplied with coffee by Spain.
Annie finally admits she was the first of the three discoverers. As Kanaya puts it once she calms down from her shock that the other girl spoke, all along only two players saw. Alice is disappointed and in turn disappoints Susan. Sonia is very indignant about the whole situation while Poland isn't sure this exonerates either blonde from accomplicity, which gets ire from Gundam and Kanaya respectively.
Solidifying earlier doubts, Poland experiments on Rin and discovers a hot poker more likely killed her. Felicia springboards off of this to conjecture that the entire crime scene must have been carefully planned in spite of its disheveled state. Sonia pushes towards the theory that the mysterybox was a ruse (and the Polish collective later confirms that it could have been made from items around the house) and encourages the progression to deducing what the second item truly was. A skeleton key is suggested but clearly wasn't used - the secret passageway theory begins to gain traction.
Felicia suggests she knows for sure secret passageways do exist - Lithuania and others discovered one in the library. Poland is hurt on the grounds that "friends" do not conceal secret passageways from one another, while Sonia and Kanaya are infuriated that this would be kept secret from the manor at large.
Stiles tries to get the trial back on track with a discussion of incentives, but all five suspects describe theirs as something desirable yet not really worth risking. Felicia, Sonia, and Clyde mount an expedition into the music room to find secret passages. They find a scrap in the scattered sheet music which Sonia plays and recognizes as Mozart, of whom there is a bust present. They turn the head and the wall opens, revealing a sheet of paper and the poker.
Sonia runs back in, presents the findings - and the clock chimes for the end of Week 4 Trial Day 1.
EPISODE TWELVE: The Thing from Eraserhead
At dinner, Poland is visibly exhausted, leading both Spain and Kaoru to try cheering him up. Kaoru in particular is confident Poland's examinations are bringing them very close to catching the killer, which leads to alarm when Kanaya insists on writing letters to be distributed in the event of her execution. Nevertheless, Kaoru cannot deny the request of a dear friend. When dinner is over, Kanaya brings Annie her uneaten meal. Annie refuses at first, pointing out the drawbacks of her company, but Kanaya insists on efficiency and suggests in a roundabout way that she in fact likes her.
Day 2 dawns as Alice summarizes the implications of the latest evidence: Somebody went through the parlor to the music room and left by 3:15. Susan was already well observed by Yuzu, so this evidence is more important to absolve Sonia in the library and Gundam by virtue of time, not to mention that the victim was neither Susan nor Jay Chou. Touko was unsupervised but would have had to move very quickly. This increasingly narrow window, suspiciously similar to the time Kaoru admits Kanaya spent "getting the china", puts Sonia in mind of a different supernaturally speedy vampire, whose exploits May is eager to hear her recount.
Alice also presents Rin's decrypted computer, which does not extend to the day of her death but does contain several distracting thoughts. Susan wonders whether the culprit didn't do the cast a favor by foiling Rin's plan to kill her for the sake of an easier deadweight murder, though her case is helped by the theory that the game's most dedicated player is some sort of "mastermind"... Alice and Stiles insist one life not be valued over another and in fact wonder whether an automaton couldn't be mechanically reconstructed.
Latvia finally brings the investigation's attention to the gloves Beat found, which he elaborates are soot. Uncharacteristically unhelpful until now, Kanaya counters the black dust is graphite. Poland questions this claim from artistic experience, and equally skeptical Felicia insists she and Latvia take a field trip to Kanaya's room for the sake of seeing her draw a picture. Not only are the gloves obviously stained by soot, Kanaya's pencil forms a noosed self-portrait.
On returning Felicia delivers a summation of events, though Poland chimes in that Annie's absence could not possibly be coincidental. Kanaya confesses to the first but not the second, insisting her vampire senses gave her the necessary timing. The exit interview starts early. Touko is grateful for the excess of sympathy that saved her from scapegoating and generously suggests a conservatory statue. Gundam and Sonia are most affected by the revelation that the "spiky ball" represented the breeding duty Kanaya owed her race and vow to carry on her work. Stiles is similarly sympathetic, taking the opportunity to get philosophical about the game's cruelty. Annie leaves more unsaid and makes a promise to survive.
Poland is not so respectful and Lithuania has to psychoanalyze his true objection - he has not forgiven Annie and Kanaya's nerve to take solace in each other after their roles in Ukraine's death. Susan is only disappointed as she is in all death, and has enough reverence to ask the hostess that she merely be hanged, as well as condone Kaoru's assistance in fetching her sketchpad and letters.
Susan's request is not heeded: On film, Kanaya hatches the matriorb but deformed creatures emerge and devour her completely. Annie, Stiles, and Sonia are shocked, leaving barely more composed Alice, Susan, and Gundam to comfort them. Kaoru ferries the promised letters to each suspect and one witness. Beat is despondent about his role in the discovery of the evidence. However, Rapture only admires the spectacle and Felicia puts on an outright proud face, praising the group for their successful investigation to Lithuania and Sonia's dismay.
Perhaps to regain their favor, Felicia publicizes the secret room in the library afterward. Poland does not want to stay and leaves early; Annie chases and slaps him for his prior teasing.
